Grandma’s Chocolate Pie
I’m the Grandma in this recipe…this is a must for my grandchildren at Thanksgiving and Christmas! This recipe makes two pies.
- 2-9 inch graham cracker or chocolate crumb pie crusts
- 1-8 oz. carton Cool Whip (I use the extra creamy kind)
- 1-8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
- 1 large package chocolate pudding mix, the kind you have to cook
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 oz. baking chocolate
If making your own pie crusts, make them first and have them ready.
In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy, then blend in cool whip on your mixers low setting. Spread half in each pie crust, making a level layer.
Cook pudding mix according to package directions but add in the vanilla and baking chocolate. Simmer pudding until baking chocolate is completely melted. Remove from heat, let cool for about 15-20 minutes, stirring the pudding frequently with a wire whisk to keep a skin from forming.
Pour over pies. Place a sheet of plastic wrap over the top of the pie, making sure there are not any bubbles. This will prevent the pie from forming a thick skin while cooling. Store in refrigerator….if you have any left!
Makes 2-9 inch pies.
