Sour Cream Chocolate Cake Recipe
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled
- 2 cups sifted cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup boiling water
Preheat oven to 350F.
Grease 2 – 9 inch cake pans, dust pans with flour or line on the bottom with waxed paper.
Cream sugar and butter together in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and melted chocolate.
Sift flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl. Add flour mixture and sour cream alternately to butter mixture; beat well after each addition. Stir in boiling water. Batter will be thin.
Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
Cool pans on wire rack for 10 minutes before removing cake layers from pans. Cool completely before frosting with your favorite chocolate or white frosting.

One Pan Cake
- 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 2 cups cold coffee or water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Stir together flour, 1-1/2 cups sugar, cocoa, soda and salt in an ungreased 12×8 inch baking pan.
Make 3 wells in the mixture; pour oil into one, vinegar in one and vanilla in one.
Pour in coffee and stir all with a fork until well mixed. Spread into an even layer.
Combine 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle half over batter.
Bake in a 350F oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon sugar over hot cake. Cool 15 or 20 minutes before cutting.

- 1 chocolate cake mix, baked
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 jar caramel ice cream topping
- Cool Whip or whipped cream
Bake chocolate cake mix according to package directions in a 13″x9″ pan.
10 minutes after taking it out of the oven, evenly spaces holes (with the end of a wooden spoon) throughout the top of the cake. Let cool.
Pour a can of sweetened condensed milk over the top of the cake. Then pour caramel ice cream topping over all to make a layer. Top with cool whip or whipped cream before serving.
